Analysis of duties and costs of operation of steam locomotives; costs at existing works prove there is greater scope for saving in layout of track and design of rolling stock for such purposes as ingot cars and tipping slag ladles than by use of alternative types of locomotive; savings possible by use of conveyors for bulk handling; maintenance of Diesel locomotives discussed, including proposals for two or three standard types.
