It is stated that high priority should be given by governments of developing countries to port projects; overambitious projects should be avoided; ports may be small in size but most modern in design and equipment; adequate means of inland transport must be provided; port town should be well planned and efforts should be made to transform it into active business center; successful port project, in Aqaba, Jordan, is briefly described.
