Relocation of railway between Rome and Naples shortens distance from 155 to 133 mi., eliminates succession of heavy grades and high summits, reduces curves both in sharpness and number, and its highest summit is 676 ft. lower than that of old line; time on old line was 4 1/2 hr. while on new line it is 2 3/4 hr. and will be still further reduced when electrification is completed.
