Road-transport work of railways in connection with freight traffic is already of considerable magnitude; collection and delivery longstanding practice; purpose of this article is mainly to illustrate that within their limited power home railways have not failed to take advantage of invention and development of motors; interesting and somewhat recent development is extension of this service to bulk traffic for purpose of assisting agricultural interests, and conserving that important traffic to rail; road transport must be economic.
