Approximately 80% of seabound traffic received from or transferred to railways; 13 basins for handling transoceanic freight; due to character as railway port, harbor basins have relatively small width; harbors, constantly being enlarged and improved to meet demands of ocean traffic, equipped with 278 cranes, most of which are electrically driven; quay sheds, for storage of freight, have total floor space of 437,000 sq yd.
