With primary object of developing coal car to produce more revenue per pound of weight on rails, Chicago Great Western consented to have five units of its orders for three hundred 70-ton hopper cars, placed with Pullman Car and Manufacturing Corp. in 1930, built to design proposed by car builder and embodying practically allwelded construction.
