F4H-1 Phantom 2 originated as U S Marine Corps attack project, was adopted by U S Navy, as intercepter, and subsequently ordered by U S Air Force in 1962; Royal Navy and Royal Air Force will now acquire McDonnell F-4B Phantom 2, fitted with Rolls-Royce Spey 25R engines; modifications and changes possibly required for British service include folding radar head as well as folding nose, drooping ailerons, more blowing, nose-up catapulting and provision for British clothing and headsets; Martin-Baker seats are already fitted; cutaway drawing.
