Civil and military concepts are compared in relation to aircraft performance requirements and reasons for continuing need for optical transparencies are enumerated; aircraft general requirements affecting transparencies; environmental conditions; design feature considerations relating to basic glazing, interlayers, sealants, gap fillers and cushioning materials, transparency frame, and complete transparency assembly; tabulation of basic glazing materials and data on their modulus of rupture at room temperature and suggested temperature limitations for long-term use; design proposals for canopies and passenger cabin windows, windscreens, etc; test requirements and test methods.
