Effectiveness of design volume and payload of cargo aircraft is determined by available trip payloads and their associated cargo densities; economically designed cargo aircraft will encounter, on certain trips, volume or weight limitations and average achieved payload will, therefore, be less than average of projected or offered payloads; method presented determines average achieved payload in projected cargo operation using probable payload and density distributions; its application to economic evaluation of proposed design volume/payload variations is outlined.
