To meet challenge of new London-Birmingham highway, design and construction of high speed coach was undertaken by Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Co (BMMO); coach, designated 'CM5', is powered by 8 liter 6-cyl horizontal engine having stroke 5.25 in., bore 4.45 in., bhp 104 at 1700 rpm, torque 370 psf at 1100 rpm, compression ratio 16/1; details of transmission, brakes suspension, tires, etc; C M5 is of integral construction, seating capacity is 34 and provision made for toilet compartment at rear of coach; results of high speed testing and service operation.
