Built at Fyenoord shipyard, Rotterdam, to order of Rotterdam Lloyd Co. for mail and passenger service between Rotterdam, Southampton, and Far East; length o.a. 574 ft.; breadth 70 ft.; draft 28 ft. 4 1/2 in.; gross tonnage 16,981 tons; propelling machinery consists of two 10-cylinder de Schelde-Sulzer two-stroke engines each developing 7000 s. hp. at speed of 102 r.p.m.; cylinders 29.9 in diam., with stroke of 52.8 in.
