Arrangement worked out by Norfolk and Western Railroad for precooling of electromechanically air conditioned cars, assures adequate power supply with any type of train or yard power system; dual machine comprises 20-kw, 150-v, d-c generator with frame extension which houses 30-hp, 220-v, 3-phase motor; advantages of a-c motor to drive axle generator compared with dual compressor motor.
