Both vessels, 22 1/2 knot twin screw motor ships, were built for British and Commonwealth Shipping Co by Swan, Hunter and Wigham Richardson Ltd; length oa 594 ft, breadth molded 77 ft 3 in., depth molded 46 ft 2 in.; draft 30 ft 6 in.; refrigerated cargo capacity 383,000 cu ft, general cargo space 208,000 cu ft, wine tanks 60,000 gal; funnel will house 2 waste heat boilers which will provide steam for turbo alternator and supply all electrical power requirements at sea.
