Eight year program of Radio Traffic Control System initiated in 1958 is reviewed; system is capable of controlling one thousand intersections and prescribing up to thirty-six functions per intersection; radio control provides highly flexible means of supervision that is expected to provide indispensible means of linking signals together in optimum mixture of traffic responsive and pre-timed signal systems; research program initiated to provide basis of second building block in signal system that can be interconnected with fixed-time preprogrammed systems is described.
