Gemini launch escape modes have been tailored to design and dynamic characteristics of launch vehicle and spacecraft; review of spacecraft and launch vehicle configuration shows why it has been possible and desirable to include flight crew in abort decision loop; three Gemini launch escape modes are described; launch simulation program conducted to evaluate launch vehicle displays and to confirm that crew could assess status of launch vehicle and take abort action if required.
