Ore carrier of 12,056 tons gross was acquired by Associated Octel on 7-yr time charter basis, from her owners Ruud-Pedersen of Oslo, and converted to tanker by Akers Mek Verksted, Oslo; conversion involved construction of two longitudinal bulkheads to subdivide ship into center and wing spaces; this gave 10 wing tanks for carriage of caustic soda liquor; six tanks for antiknock compounds, specially constructed in grade A steel, were fitted into center spaces and tied structurally to hull; propulsion is by 6-cyl MAN engine.
