Fixed-bed model of 1 to 120 scale reproducing about 2.4 mi of relatively straight reach of Monongahela proposed for locks and damsite, was used to determine most favorable site in reach for structures, demonstrate flow conditions in lock approaches, assist in developing modifications of approaches and structures to improve navigation conditions, and determine flow and navigation conditions during stages of construction of locks and dam; tests were concerned with study of flow patterns, measurement of velocities in lock approaches, and behavior of model tow on entering and leaving locks under flows ranging from 35,000 to 116,000 cfs.
