Manifold vacuum limiting device uses retarded engine spark timing to overcome loss of engine braking previously encountered; retarding spark timing to about 10° After Top Center during deceleration restores engine braking to same level as that of standard car; California composite hydrocarbon concentration results indicate significant overall reductions when device is used which is more effective during decelerations beginning at 50 mph.
