Frigate Aurora was commissioned for service in Royal Navy at Clydebank yard of John Brown and Co; length oa 372 ft, breadth 41 ft, draft 13 ft 3 in., displacement 2300 tons; main gun armament comprises two 4.5-in. dual purpose guns in twin fully automatic turret forward of bridge and controlled from radar equipped director mounted over enclosed bridge; 3-barrelled Limbo ahead throwing weapon and helicopter armed with homing torpedoes are provided; provisional 40-mm Bofors guns will later be replaced by 2 quadruple Seacat launchers firing sea-to-air guided missiles; double reduction geared impulse turbines of 30,000 shp turn twin shafts for sea speed slightly in excess of 30 knots.
