Orama is first of three diesel tankers for P. and O. Group and was built by Lithgows Ltd, who have second underway while third is in building at Barclay, Curle and Co; length oa of Orama is 775 ft, extreme breadth 106 ft, depth molded to upper deck 56 ft, loaded summer draft 41 ft 10 1/8 in., total cargo capacity 2,786,327 cu ft; 10-cyl, 840-mm bore engine has normal service output of 18,300 bhp metric at 105 rpm; cargo tanks are protected by inert gas system, and provision is made to ease engine room maintenance.
