Account of experimental investigation carried out at British Ship Research Assn's Structures Laboratory at Glengarnock, in conjunction with Lloyd's Register of Shipping; main object was to examine in detail behavior of swedged plates when subjected to axial and lateral loading, applied separately, and to compare results with those for similar tests on orthodox forms of stiffening; 16 specimens were tested in compression and further 16 under lateral loading; materials were aluminum alloy and mild steel.
