Description of tracker which is essentially telescope in two degrees of freedom gimbal system; it is continuously torqued to null angular error between target star and position of telescope; use of tracker as attitude reference system for future spacecraft; since star trackers are inherently drift free, they are ideally suited to long term operation; automatic in-flight calibration; analysis of noise and of gimbal torquing loops.
