Part played by Diesel engined vessels in sponge fishing in Tarpon Springs on Gulf coast of Florida; there are two methods of obtaining sponges; shallow water sponges are "hooked" from bottom by fleet of 50 small boats, mostly Diesel powered; in deeper water choice varieties are obtained by divers; fleet of 75 craft ranging from 38 to 45 ft in length is engaged in diving operations; brief note on design of sponge boats.
