Results of tests by Naval Engineering Experiment Station at Annapolis demonstrate that evaluation of ignition quality of Diesel fuels in engines in field use, by comparison with accepted standard reference fuels is possible; ordinary instruments and procedures are sufficient; cetane numbers of Diesel fuels using knockmeter delay method in Cooperative Fuel Research engine provide reliable forecast of characteristics of class of engines, represented by submarine test unit.
