High speed long distance hauling from coast to coast will be possible upon completion of 41,000 mi national superhighway network in 1970's; study undertaken to examine implications of new road system on truck design led to development of experimental truck-tractor using Model 705, 600-hp gas turbine engine, and five-speed automatic transmission with retarder; chassis, built up from conventional frame with space frame structure supporting cab, is of fiberglass; cab interior, arranged for two-man operation, includes sleeping accommodations, height for walking around, washroom and food facilities, heating and air conditioning system; comfort control, instrument panel and console.
