So engrossed are engineers in design ingenuity that they often overlook most important factor, operator; result is technical feats but operational failures; antidote is human engineering -- designing machine and its every component within limitations of human body and brain; this holds for any device, particularly complicated ones, such as airplane; program of Special Devices Center of Office of Naval Research is outlined.
