Five vessels, termed "E" class, ordered by Australian Shipping Board, from Walkers, Ltd, Maryborough, Queensland; first, "Eugowra," launched July 10 1947; length oa 181 ft 9 in.; breadth molded 29 ft 6 in.; depth molded 14 ft 9 in.; propelled by 6-cyl, 540-bhp Diesel engine; it was announced that Australian Government would build 20 vessels of 200 tons for service in New Guinea and other islands; plans being prepared for two "B" class Diesel engined cargo ships.
