Cargo ship of 12,000 tons dw was built by Mitsubishi Zosen (Mitsubishi Shipbuilding and Engineering Co) for Nippon Yusen Kaisha; length oa 528 ft 2 in., maximum breadth 75 ft 8 in., depth 42 ft 2 in., draft 30 ft 9 1/2 in., bale capacity 677,000 cu ft and grain 736,160 cu ft; Mitsubishi engine gives 13,000 bhp at 124 rpm; service speed (loaded) 19.5 knots; extreme bulbous bow enables vessel to attain speed only 0.8 knot less than "half-sister", Yamanashi Maru, while using 75% of power.
