Study looks to origin of Moon itself for insight into genesis of present lunar terrain, considering origin of Moon and its thermal history together with concomitant effects on Earth; hypotheses presented are integration and elaboration of those of O. Fisher, G.Darwin, W.Pickering and A.Wegener; it is proposed that Moon originated from Earth and took with it over half of Earth's original crust; this formed almost 14% of total volume of Moon; terrestrial and lunar consequences of hypothesis.
