Life boat developed by Bristol Aeroplane Plastics Ltd, in association with Mechans Ltd of Glasgow, meets International Convention for Safety of Life at Sea 1960 requirement for boat to convey safely through sea covered in burning oil, where temperature may be 1000 C, for 5 min and then to be structurally sound conventional life boat; steel-hulled boat is equipped with close fitting steel canopy coated with special heat absorbing plastic layer on outside, and lined with draped asbestos cloth; access is through 4 spring loaded gull wing doors; 12 3/4 hp Lister engine propels craft at 6 knots; test data and diagram are given.
