Analysis of system which includes maneuvering ship towing underwater vehicle at end of long flexible cable; equations of motion for both cable and underwater vehicle are also given; cable is imagined to consist of many interconnected short rigid segments; equations are formulated for simple hypothesis regarding inertia of accelerated body in fluid, and for more complete and more accurate hydrodynamic hypothesis.
