Research was conducted to determine whether accidents in dark would be fewer if drivers used dipped headlights at night, instead of sidelights only, on all roads in towns irrespective of standard of street lighting; investigation consists of comparison of accident data for Birmingham during campaign with similar data for earlier periods and for other towns; results and factors affecting accident rate are discussed.
