Attempt is made to refine car-following models by assumption that every driver reacts to several of preceding vehicles; model suggested is discussed; stability criterion is found; it is pointed out that "reciprocal-spacing-model" gives critical velocity below which flow is instable; it is assumed that to load road section to its theoretical capacity, corresponding optimum velocity must be in stable range; based on this assumption, it is shown that maximum flow is limited by S/2T, where S is constant depending on ratio of sensitivity coefficients, and T is response time.
