Tanker was built at Nagasaki yard of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and planned by Shell to serve their Continental refineries from Middle East oil fields, sailing around Cape in loaded condition and through Suez Canal in ballast; length oa 325.05 m, breadth molded 47.16 m, depth molded 24.50 m, draft (loaded) 18.89 m; 246,970 cu m capacity of oil cargo is carried in five tanks, each subdivided by longitudinal bulkheads providing wing ballast tanks with capacity of 35,645 cu m; output of Mitsubishi MTP turbine is 28,000 shp.
