Ship was built for Delta Steamship Lines by Ingalls Shipbldg Corp, and is first of series of five representing further refinement of Del Rio class; clipper bow is retained but under water it merges into large bulbous forefoot; hull lines are of medium V-form with pronounced knuckle below forecastle; afterbody features extremely large clearances in way of propeller and unusually large semi-balanced rudder; seven holds are served by revolving cranes, etc; General Electric turbines are fitted; plan.
