Basic use of drogue is to augment aerodynamic drag and moments (both static and dynamic) of primary body; drag measurements for spherical and conical drogues behind various forebody shapes were made at supersonic speeds by free-flight testing technique; major variables investigated were ratio of drogue diameter to forebody diameter and ratio of towline length to forebody diameter; investigations of various forebody-drogue configurations were conducted at Mach 4; effects of Mach number (0.7 greater than M greater than 4) were carried out only on Apollo-like forebody with spherical drogue.
