Scope and organization of CNES (Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales) which is public scientific and technical establishment of both industrial and commercial character, endowed with financial autonomy; national programs include astronomical studies in ultra-violet, infra-red and decametric fields, study of terrestrial environment and Sun-Earth relationship, and development of meteorological systems based on use of constant-height balloons located by satellite; description of some satellites developed and examples of geodetic studies carried out.
