With GM meter developed by H.Kato in Japan, GM value is obtained by using draft and natural period of roll, and readings can be taken during loading enabling storage of cargo in most suitable position; instrument comprises two parts; precision clinometer is used to measure natural period of roll of small angles of 1 to 3° with stopwatch; it contains damped pendulum and angle of inclination is magnified 30 times; slide rule is of circular type and to calculate G M value it is only necessary to set rolling period against draft, and value is then indicated on outside scale.
