Results of model studies that were conducted at Central Water and Power Research Station in India which resulted in development of system involving damping are described together with various designs of damped moorings; model experiments showed that damping devices in moorings are effective in reducing ship movement caused by long-period waves by 60 to 70%; designs of hydraulic cylinders with damping characteristics or stack of highly-compressible rubber disks in frame are considered likely to absorb momentum of moving ship and limit its maximum movement.
