Paper examines vibration response characteristics of vehicle operating at hypersonic speeds in lower atmosphere; analytical tools previously developed for predicting vibration levels on subsonic vehicles are found to be unsuitable for this case since both motor-produced direct mechanical and external acoustic excitation are insignificant; aerodynamic phenomena and in particular base pressure excitation are found to be major source of excitation during powered and unpowered flight.
