Measurements were made of vertical component of dynamic stress generated in soil subgrade by vehicles traveling along road surfaces; results of study showed that variations of dynamic wheel load resulting from characteristics of vehicle as it travels over road surface irregularities, and nonuniformity of soil and other road materials, under certain circumstances, can cause soil stress to vary by up to plus or minus 35% under same nominal construction.
