Floating dry dock with capacity of 38,000 long tons at 1-ft freeboard is 1-piece steel structure measuring 725 ft long over pontoons, 172 ft wide and 140 ft clear width between wings; hull design reflects basic ideas developed in aeroplane design where weight is vital factor; dewatering pumps driven directly by diesel engines, bilge blocks, access, control and mooring are described.
