These locomotives, constructed for Buenos Aires Great Southern Ry., in addition to being first of this particular type for 5-ft. 6-in. gage lines of South America, also rank as most powerful locomotives on Argentine railways; boiler is of Belpaire type, with steel inside firebox; tractive effort of 43,040 lb. at 75 per cent of boiler pressure.
