As result of improvement in last few years, no insurmountable problems are apparent for widespread use of electroluminescence for general lighting purposes; research and development work are finding best phosphors, most practical cell construction and optimum operating conditions; electroluminescent cells will probably first be used for photographic darkroom lighting, aircraft and auto panel lighting, signs, etc.
