Smallest type of cargo ship designed by Maritime Commission, intended to meet need for efficient, economical ships on trade routes where speed is not of major importance and where large cargoes would not always be available; four types of C-1 design described and particulars given in table; in steam driven vessels propelling machinery consists of cross compound, double reduction geared turbine; motorships propelled by two directly reversible Diesel engines.
