It is emphasized that actual contour of seat cushion when passenger is in it, is of chief importance, and that free contour is of little importance; cushion that gives very satisfactory "showroom" softness may produce unsatisfactory ride under dynamic conditions; authors suggest possibility of leaf type of variable-rate cushion spring and means for elastically suspending seat assembly as whole with respect to car body.
