Objectives of study, carried out by TRW Mechanical Products Div, are to develop compact system which would replace present LOX system, used in military aircraft; only periodic servicing required is to refill water reservoir between flights; system, with rebreather loop, requires only generation of oxygen at rate equal to approximately 1.5 times that metabolically consumed by user; system is also applicable for use in closed environments such as spacecraft and submarines; oxygen system and its design are described and projected sizes and weights for fully-developed prototype presented.
