Largest tanker now under construction is of about 130,000 tons dw, in building in Japan, and is to be propelled by set of geared steam turbine machinery developing 25,500 shp for service speed of about 15 1/2 knots; comparison is made with large motor tankers in service, building or on order, largest on order being of 100,000 tons dw; transverse section and main details are shown for Burmeister and Wain, Fiat, MAN, Mitsubishi UEC, Stork, and Sulzer engines which are of bore varying from 840-900 mm.
