Once shaft horsepower, steam conditions and basic cycle are established, heat balance calculation can be made; from it various steam, exhaust, feed and condensate flows can be determined and used in selecting suitable machinery and equipment; heat balances may also be prepared to determine optimum steam conditions and cycle design or to analyze performance of power plant on trials or in service; propulsion turbine, and propulsion, domestic and ship service auxiliaries are treated; report includes data, practices, diagrams, symbols, abbreviations and forms for checking calculations.
