Elements of overall system; main difference between manned aircraft and missiles is that in former "short period" dynamic characteristics should usually be at least moderately stable, while in latter considerable instability can be tolerated; this requires that missile control system should have high gain "synthetic" feedback; missile stability problems arising from structural flexibility and propellant sloshing; human pilot vs automatic flight control.
